Is that the Wamponoag I see?

Yes, 90 of them crashed the party and brought with them various foods including, of course, turkeys. The celebration went quite well, downhill from that point on. Arond the same time, in 1624, the Dutch staked claim on Formosa. I'll bet the aborigines were as accommodating as the Wamponoag Indians.

Yes, I also use Plymouth as a point of time reference for Taiwan. Both the US and Taiwan were seen as gardens of Eden by the incoming settlers. These settlers had an interesting way of saying thanks for the hospitality - see rape, theft and finally genocide.

There are still Wamponoag living on reservations in Massachusetts, no? When we think of reservations, Oklahoma and Arizona, places out west, often come to mind. The plight of Eastern groups is quite forgotten.

Indeed, there are still tiny reservations around here. The more notable ones: one on Nantucket Island (the Wampanoags), and a couple down in Connecticut (now Faxowoods run by the Pequots and Mohegan Sun by the Mohegans, both of which casinos). The Mohicans (actually the Mahicans) moved to Wisconsin years ago. Smaller tribes have pretty much all disappeared.
